Frequently Asked Questions
Our Products and Farms
Are all Grass Roots animals 100% pasture raised?
Yes! Our farmers raise cattle, pigs, sheep, and poultry in natural conditions with no antibiotics, no added hormones, and nothing artificial ever.
We also invest more time, care, and space into raising our animals. Livestock graze and forage as they’re meant to, with herds and flocks moved regularly to prevent overgrazing and allow pastures and forests to recover.
This approach supports healthier soil, protects water systems, and encourages biodiversity across the entire ecosystem, from microbes to birds and beyond.
The result is a farming system that’s ethical, regenerative, and built to last.
How are your animals raised and what are your farming standards?
Our standards go far beyond “grass-fed and finished.” Every animal is pasture- and forest-raised on small farms across the USA, with no added hormones or antibiotics ever.
We use regenerative farming practices that prioritize healthy soil, open pasture, and the natural behaviors of each animal. All animals are born, raised, and harvested in the USA, and graze on natural, non-GMO pasture.
At the heart of it all are the farmers. Grass Roots was built to support the people behind the food system by ensuring they earn a living wage while raising animals with care, integrity, and respect.
We believe in complete transparency. You can explore our full animal husbandry standards and learn more about our farms on our About Us page.
How do I know what farm each product comes from?Â
Each individual product will have the farm it was raised at printed on the front of the package. You can learn more about our farmers here in our About Us page.

What is Savedby Package Protection and do I need it?
We partner with a trusted company called SavedBy to help ensure your order arrives safely and that you’re covered if anything goes wrong in transit.
When you opt into package protection, it also helps shield our farmers from losses caused by carrier issues like delays, damage, or failed deliveries.
Package protection is completely optional, but we highly recommend it as a simple, hassle-free way to file a claim and get support if needed.

When will my order arrive?
You’ll automatically receive an email with a tracking number from the carrier when your order ships.
Your Grass Roots order will arrive in 2 to 7 days (delivery dates depend on when you place your order and where you live in the contiguous 48 states). We only use environmentally conscientious shipping materials, like Green Cell Foam, It’s an innovative plant-based insulation that’s both recyclable and biodegradable. The box is also 100% biodegradable, compostable, recyclable
My order thawed in transit— is it still OK?
Yes! Before shipping, we flash-freeze your order to lock in freshness and keep flavor at its peak during transit. Each box is packed with dry ice to ensure everything stays cold along the way.
If a few items arrive partially thawed, don’t worry. As long as they’re still cold to the touch, they’re perfectly safe to eat. Simply place them in the refrigerator to thaw fully, or refreeze anything you’re not ready to enjoy yet.
To preserve quality, be sure to move everything into your fridge or freezer as soon as your order arrives. Let’s keep all that goodness fresh.
Pack date: What is it and where is it on my package?
Freshness is a top priority at Grass Roots. Unlike standard packaged goods that use “best by” or expiration dates—which don’t account for time before shipping—we use a Julian Date.
Because we own and operate our own processing facilities across the country, we know the exact date each animal is processed and flash-frozen. Flash freezing locks in peak freshness and flavor, so every package you receive tastes as fresh as the day it was frozen.
What does the label look like and is there a barcode I can scan for my store?
You can see a sample of our packaging, ready for retail with labeling, information about sourcing and a barcode easily scannable for your place of business. See example here.
Why are there limits on some of your products that I can purchase?
Our farmers raise and harvest animals with intention and care, availability is naturally limited throughout the year. Setting purchase limits helps ensure more customers have access to these cuts while allowing our farmers to raise animals at a sustainable pace—never exceeding what the land, pasture, and animals can responsibly support.
